It was a common practice when I was a teenager to take the first cigarette of a fresh pack and turn it upside down so that the tobacco end pointed upward. This was the Lucky Cigarette and it was not to be smoked until every other cigarette was gone. I have no idea where this practice came from, what its origins could be, but I did it along with all my peers. There really was no reason to do it, now that I think of it. But every now and then the phrase "Lucky Cigarette" pops into my head out of the blue.
